Helping people and communities deal with excessive dog barking and noise nuisance

What is excessive dog barking in the UK?

In the UK, excessive dog barking is not defined by a specific legal decibel limit or exact time threshold. Instead, under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, barking is considered a statutory noise nuisance if it unreasonably and materially interferes with a neighbour's use and enjoyment of their property.

Most councils in the UK, however, define excessive nuisance dog barking by DURATION, FREQUENCY, TIME OF DAY and ENVIRONMENT.

DURATION

Continuous barking lasting 30 minutes or more, or a cumulative total exceeding two hours within a 24-hour period

TIME OF DAY

Barking during sensitive hours, such as late at night, early in the morning, or on Sundays and public holidays

Testimonials

I found the help and guidance on Dog Noise UK really useful. I'm surprised no-one has created something like this before. Dogs barking on our estate has been a real nuisance for several years, especially since the pandemic. Dog Noise UK helped me get in touch with my local council who was able to act and get the neighbour to sort their dog out

Andy, Newton-le-Willows

As a dog owner who has dogs that used to bark excessively, I was always aware they were annoying my neighbours. Through Dog Noise UK I was able to get in touch with a dog trainer who managed to massively improve my dogs' behaviour.

Paula, Manchester

I was looking to buy a house in a certain area. Using the map on Dog Noise UK enabled me to see if the area I was buying my house in was free from dog barking noise pollution.

Gail, Birmingham

As a dog trainer in the UK, Dog Noise UK has increased my client base exponentially. I'm glad dog owners are beginning to understand the impact of their dogs barking and I've been able to help owners and their neighbours live in peace. Great website and service.

Steve Smith, Llandudno

STOP excessive dog barking in the UK

Helping communities understand, manage and prevent excessive dog barking across the UK.
Dog Noise UK is an animal-loving, dog-positive organisation that aims to educate dog owners about excessive illegal noise, by facilitating tools, methods and training that prevents dogs from barking to the annoyance of everyone around them.

We facilitate methods making it easy for the public to report issues to the local authorities, as well as keeping a centralised record of dog noise complaints that UK councils and the general public can easily get access to.
